Milan Design Week 2024 with BLOK Plaatmateriaal

Using new laminate decors from the Formica® Patterns Collection, BLOK Plaatmateriaal, led by Creative Chief Officer Carina Riezebos, has ingeniously transformed the stately colonnade at the historic Palazzo dei Giureconsulti into SFUMATURE, a captivating city hub for Milan Design Week 2024.

Inspired by the grandeur of Milan's iconic Duomo Cathedral, SFUMATURE (meaning “colour hues” in Italian) features puzzle-like arches meticulously crafted from eco-conscious materials like plywood and bio-based MDF. Sections adorned with F5014 White Painted Marble and F9684 Natural Recycled Kraft from the new Formica® Patterns Collection seamlessly integrate with the construction, offering a mesmerising fusion of hues and textures.

The installation also boasts a curated selection of vintage Formica® Laminate furniture from the 1950s and 1960s, revitalised in collaboration with Evelien Reich, Editor in Chief of Elle Decoration NL. This fusion of classic design with modern materials pays homage to Formica® brand timeless heritage, embodying both nostalgia and contemporary allure.

SFUMATURE is more than just an installation – it is a joyful homage to the enduring mastery of woodworking and craftsmanship. Jan Blok, CEO of BLOK Plaatmateriaal, says: “Our aim is to inspire and celebrate the rich heritage of craftsmanship in our industry while meeting the highest professional standards.”

Visit SFUMATURE to delve into the fusion of art, design, and history within this inspiring space.
